This class will also enjoy taking the big stage for Spring recital!

Ballet/Tap Combo:

Our combo classes are the perfect choice for both new dancers and existing dancers to train in multiple styles of dance.  This is a terrific class for Pre-K and Kindergarten ages to work on the stamina of dancing for a full hour. Students will be delighted to try two genres within the time period. This class encourages dancers to become more well rounded performers and artists. The genres of ballet and tap will be alternated each week. This class will enjoy taking the big stage for Spring Recital!

Ballet classes:

The study of Ballet includes classical barre technique, center & traveling floor studies and variations/combinations using traditional, classical technique including Vagonova, RAD and Cecchetti methods. We emphasize artistry, musicality and proper technique with classical French terminology and awareness of injury prevention. Ballet encompasses strength, body placement, stylized technique, coordination, grace, balance, flexibility, artistry and musicality. All levels consist of barre, adagio and allegro components. We offer several levels based on age and skill. Ballet levels are not like schools grade levels where you advance each year, rather it is typical to spend more than a year in a certain level.

Primary Ballet:

Primary Ballet is designed for our beginning ballet dancers.  Ideal for children ages 5 - 7 fitting beautifully between our Storybook & Ballet I offerings.  Students will nurture their love of ballet through engaging activities while setting a strong foundation in technique.

Ballet I:

Ages 6/7+ or by Evaluation

This is the first level of Ballet technique that is no longer an introductory level.  Students must master the Ballet I curriculum before being moved up by their instructor to Ballet II.  If you are 7+  and a beginner, you can either take this class or schedule a placement evaluation with JPA.

Ballet II:

This is the second level of the Ballet curriculum at JPA. Students must master the Ballet II curriculum before being moved up by their instructor to Ballet III.

Ballet III:

This is the third level of the Ballet curriculum at JPA.  Students must master the Ballet III curriculum before being moved up by their instructor to Ballet IV. *To best support our families we are currently offering this class at two different time slots for our 2024-25 school year.

Ballet IV/V:

This class is designed with a mixed curriculum incorporating both levels IV and V. Students will be introduced to this class when they are moved up to ballet IV and will remain in this class until they are able to demonstrate all Ballet V requirements. This class is for mature dancers. Dancers in this skill level are encouraged to also take Pre-Pointe/Pointe Fundamentals

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet:

This is an upper division class for mature Ballet dancers. This class must come with a teacher evaluation/recommendation. Students must have a firm understanding of classic technique and terminology, port de bras, épaulement, barre and centre technique. A strong knowledge of Ballet vocabulary is a necessity as well as the ability to execute foundations without teacher demonstration.  This class is for students who are ready for increasingly challenging combinations while adding musicality, choreography, and artistry to their ballet technique.

*Pre-Pointe/Pointe Fundamentals

This class is designed to strengthen ballet dancers who are preparing to advance to Pointe.  Along with a recommendation from a JPA teacher, students must show physical readiness to begin their exciting Pointe journey.  Any established pointe students who desire extra technical training throughout the week are also encouraged to take this class.

Intermediate/Advanced Pointe:

Along with a recommendation from a JPA instructor, this class requires solid ballet technique and physical attributes.  This includes proper strength, bone formation and placement. Pointe also requires strong mental discipline and weekly consistency. Students are required to be enrolled in at least two other technique classes. This class includes both barre and centre work.

Tap classes:

Beginning level classes focus on learning basic rhythm patterns starting with simple combinations that include shuffles, flaps, stomps, riffs, pullbacks, etc. Advanced levels combine these in more complex rhythm and mixed meter combinations enabling students to slide easily between the styles of such performers as Fred Astaire, Bill “Bo Jangles” Robinson, Gene Kelly, Honi Coles and Savion Glover. All levels emphasize clarity of rhythm and sound, and the development of style through the use of the whole body. In addition to breaking down tap sounds, terminology, timing and rhythm, you'll also learn progressive choreography from week to week. The pace of instruction will be designed to accommodate a range of levels from advanced beginners to intermediate tappers.

Jazz Dance Classes:

Jazz is one of the most popular and well known forms of dance!  Jazz's fun, high-energy dance form assists in developing technique, rhythm and style while also building strength, flexibility and body awareness.
